Are you passionate about mechanical engineering and eager to make an impact in the power generation industry? We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Mechanical Design Plant Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will provide engineering services to our generation fleet for the current Outage Season and assist with future planning.
About the role:

Perform engineering tasks in planning, operations, construction, and maintenance environments.

Plan, design, and estimate time and cost for construction and maintenance of structures, facilities, systems, and components.

Develop and apply engineering principles, standards, and procedures to create cost-effective designs.

Provide on-site engineering support (overnight stay or multiple trips per week is possible) and consultation at generation assets, ensuring adherence to industry standards, codes, and regulations.

Design, develop, modify, and evaluate cost-effective, mechanically, and structurally sound products and solutions to support reliable and safety-compliant power plant equipment and systems.

Develop specifications and direct the fabrication, installation, operation, application, maintenance, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical machines, equipment, instrumentation, tools, engines, and systems.

Ensure quality levels and industry standards are maintained or improved.
About the team:

Power Supply Engineering Services (PSES) provides quality engineering solutions and analyses to maintain safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations of PGE generation assets. The Mechanical Engineering/Materials group provides technical expertise and support service to the Generation Fleet (Thermal Plant, Hydro, Wind, and “other” renewables). The group leverages and collaborates with the inhouse design team to develops and maintains engineering drawings and models to support operations, maintenance, physical security, environmental, licensing, and regulatory functions.

Responsibilities

Engineering Standards Applies engineering education and training in advancing professional knowledge of engineering processes and standards and independently applies knowledge to assignments with occasional guidance on request.

Develops applied professional engineering knowledge of mechanical design engineering codes (i.e., ASME B31.1 Power Piping, ASME Boiler Pressure Vessel Code, American National Standards Institute, Oregon Boiler Law, National Board Inspection Code, American Society for Testing and Materials, American Water Works Association, American Petroleum Institute, etc.) through assignments in support of complex projects.

Engineering Production Prepares engineering deliverables as member of engineering support/project team. Maintains the operation, reliability, safety and regulatory compliance of PGE’s generating resources in the assigned functional area; develops piping systems, including pump sizing, valve type and operation, pipe support selection, instrumentation, etc.; modifies or improves process skids, HVAC systems and other balance of plant auxiliary equipment.

Prepares elements of technical studies and RCAs; analyzes and prepares reports and design packages and provides data and recommendations on less complex technical matters to company personnel and management. Investigates and analyzes minor system construction, maintenance and operational problems. Develops and recommends solutions. Partners with draftsmen and designers within functional area to produce designs; provides engineering expertise in developing designs.

Project Coordination Coordinates with other professional engineers on project team; shares information and professional opinions in executing project tasks. Establishes priorities within assignments and projects. Applies established methodologies in recommending design parameters; interprets and applies approach to design challenges; coordinates work with plant staff, environmental services, nondestructive examination team and reliability-centered maintenance team. Scopes, plans, schedules and coordinates minor project assignments with less complex features associated with design, construction, operation, maintenance or testing. Prepares project budget estimates and tracks project costs.

Knowledge Sharing Expands professional knowledge of latest technology and processes; shares knowledge with other colleagues. Applies engineering concepts and theories in undertaking professional development to establish engineering proficiency within a field of specialization.

Education Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering. ABET-accredited engineering program or program accredited by an equivalent agency preferred

Experience Typically two or fewer years in engineering

Compensation Range:
$68,850.00 - $114,750.00Actual total compensation, including a performance based incentive bonus, is commensurate with experience, skills, qualifications, education, training, and internal equity. While we anticipate the selected candidate for this position will fall towards the middle or entry point of the compensation range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.
